Investigating Vehicular Homicide (CSR 151)

This lesson is intended to build a solid foundation of commencing fatal DUI collisions with a determination of case based upon the awareness of risk. Legal, social, and professional considerations are also discussed in an effort to maximize effectiveness for the investigator.

This course consists of three (3) video lessons and includes an assessment at the conclusion of each lesson.

Investigating Vehicular Homicide Collisions Involving DUI, Part 1: Cause and Risk

This lesson is intended to build a solid foundation of commencing fatal DUI collisions with a determination of case. This determination is followed up with an awareness of the risk and is discussed with both subjective and objective standards.

At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received in class:

1. Demonstrate understanding of the basic principles involved in human factors analysis of alcohol-related fatal collisions.

2. Understand a variety of considerations for determining cause and appropriate charging for fatal DUI collisions.

3. Understand the varying levels of awareness of risk involved in subjective and objective standards of proof of criminal acts.

Investigating Vehicular Homicide Collisions Involving DUI, Part 2: Intoxication

This lesson is intended to build upon the factors of cause and an awareness of risk segment one. The lesson delves into various issues related to alcohol once cause and the awareness of risk are proven and multiple considerations are discussed.

At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received in class:

1. Demonstrate understanding of the basic principles involved in human factors analysis of alcohol-related fatal collisions.

2. Understand a variety of considerations for determining factors involving intoxication related to the collision.

3. Understand the importance of establishing a multitude of physical evidence relative to the intoxication of the driver.

 

Investigating Vehicular Homicide Collisions Involving DUI, Part 3: Additional Considerations

This lesson is intended to build upon the first two videos in the series which covered cause, awareness of risk, and alcohol issues. Legal, social, and professional considerations are discussed to maximize effectiveness for the investigator.

At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with the information received in class:

1. Demonstrate understanding of the basic principles involved in human factors analysis of alcohol-related fatal collisions.

2. Understand a variety of additional considerations when charging drivers for alcohol-related fatalities.

3. Understand various influences on how and why cases are often filed they way they are and how to build their case.
